Illuminate
Lighting…
Hi I hope you’re all well… I’m not enjoying these darker mornings and early darker evenings already are you? So I thought I’d do this little blog about how to illuminate your spaces and not like the Blackpool illumination’s don’t worry. So here’s some tips on how to correctly place lights within your interiors or your up and coming plans for new spaces to create the perfect atmosphere in different zones and rooms to beat the autumn and winter blues.
Wall Lights…
Wall lights can be used to break up larger walls or to illuminate certain areas and art work you want to showcase. They’re often used for mood lighting when you don’t want the more dominant lights shining brightly above you. Wall lights are great in bathrooms placed either side of your basin mirror too. I always ask clients to consider wall lights when planning their spaces. A lot of clients say to me they wish they’d contacted me sooner about their interiors, as they would have done things differently at the planning stage rather than when the work was almost completed.
Pendants…
Pendants are great above your kitchen island and even your dining table as standout pieces to add a touch of glamour and show off your style or to complement your current colour scheme, I usually advise three pendants above your island (if it’s large enough) either way you need pendants incorporated into your kitchen and dining room schemes, they really do make a difference and when all the cooking, eating and tidying up is done they are great to have on as mood lighting when the brighter spot lights are turned off. In larger spaces using different lighting and pendants in certain areas of larger, open plan living spaces they work fantastically in creating zones within the space, separating the kitchen from the dining area and then different lighting in the living space. Pendants are great as stylish night lights hanging from the ceiling either side of your bed for a softer, more relaxing mood and make great reading lights.
Task lighting…
Task lights are one of the most important lighting to consider when designing a new space. This is the lighting you need to complete your day to day tasks, so in a kitchen you need good lighting above you when cooking, cleaning and preparing food so spot lights, strip lights and under cupboard lighting are the usual lights we go to for this. In a bathroom considering where you’ll need your lights is just as important but we don’t just have to use spots in a bathroom you can still find some stunning pendants, wall lights and even bathroom chandeliers to add a touch of style and glamour to the space. In your bedrooms or dressing rooms consider where you need the most light, where you’ll be getting dressed or doing your hair and make up (for the ladies). Even consider where your bed will be placed to make sure your light fittings are in the correct place if you opt for pendants either side of your bed and even your plug sockets for your side table lamps.
Mood lighting…
Lamps are the ultimate mood lighting, the less permanent lighting that we can move around if we feel like it. I’ve even seen lately some cool chargeable lamps which can be moved from table to table and room to room, I mean how cool is that?!! Lamps are the lights we turn to on these darker days when we want to relax and watch television, curled up on our sofas like we’re hibernating with the wildlife. Lamps make us feel warm and cozy, they are great next to arm chairs to read your favourite book even some small candles dotted around can create the perfect cozy atmosphere, you can even get some brilliant battery (safer) candles now with timer switches on them to come on and go off at the same time everyday, which work just as good as the real thing but are very pet and child friendly. Even your lovely fires give off mood lighting the warm, cozy feel we get from a lit fire even if it’s an artificial fire this still creates a mood.
So I’m now going to wish you all some nice cozy evenings coming up with your mood lights. I’ve just realised too we will also have the lovely Christmas lighting to come soon too but that’s a whole other ball game. I hope I’ve helped if your planning a new room in the near future and where to consider placing your lights to make the most of your spaces.
Thank you sooo much for reading.
Stay cozy
