What’s coming 2022
Hello there, I thought I’d jump on to write about a few of the interior trends that are set for 2022.
I’m not one for trends, I never encourage trends, as I always say you should stay true to your style and your favourite colours, there really is no point in forcing something into your home that you really don’t like just because it’s in and it’s trending.
In a way all of us end up with some items that are on trend, as all the home accessory retailers and other major retailers sell items that are trending, so it does become inevitable that we all end up with somethings on trend which helps us to keep our interiors up to date. I’m particularly loving the trends for 2022 though that’s why I’m blogging about them as they are my favourite, it’s all about earthy, natural neutrals and designs that last.
Earthy Tones
Neutrals and natural hues are my favourite, these colours are timeless, we will see more earthy, browns , greens and terracotta hues in 2022, connecting us to nature and the outside.
Also antique, wooden Imperfect furniture, up-cycled and classic feeling furniture items are back with a bang.
All these changes, trends, fast fashion and the feeling that we need to be seen as on trend and have new things continuously is all contributing to our planet and global warming. When really sometimes all we need to do is see items in a different light, can it be re-polished, painted or does it just need some new handles. A little like our clothes, if we have a dress, can we add a different belt or jacket with it to make it look a little different and feel new again.
When I go to a clients home who is looking to re-design a space, one of the first questions I ask them is, will they be keeping any of the existing furniture? More times than not they say “oh , no I’m not keeping any of it”. By the end of our meeting I’ve usually persuaded them that certain items could be kept to which they are really surprised and then really happy that they are able to keep items but bring them up to date, often saving them money.
Floor to Ceiling Sheer Curtains
Floor to ceiling curtains can create a dynamic look and make a space feel larger. It will draw your eye to the highest point in the room. It helps if you have higher ceilings but this also works with lower ceiling heights in making a space feel larger.
Sheer curtains create softness, texture and movement. They transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces and enhance interior spaces by framing the windows whilst still letting in the soft lighting and sunlight from outside.
Sculptural Curves
Curved furniture… curved chairs, sofas , tables and island worktops. Curved furniture can create a softness to a space rather than the harsher straight lined items. They also create a feeling of more space within a room too. Subconsciously we read curved furniture as safe, friendly and fun.
Feature walls, especially Panelled walls
Feature walls, also known as accent walls can add texture, interest and set the scene for the rest of the room. Panelling has been huge lately and is big within interiors and we can see why.
Panelling walls adds depth and character to a space, wether you are panelling half way up the wall or going for a full wall, either will create a stunning feature to any space from bathrooms, to bedrooms, to hallways and living rooms. Panelling is quite inexpensive too and can be done on tight budgets, but creates a big impact.
A little tip from me to you, by painting the skirting boards the same colour as the walls this adds height to lower ceiling spaces and full wall panelling elongates the wall giving the illusion of a higher ceiling. Thank me later…wink, wink.
So that was just a few interior trends for the up coming year and beyond. I hope I’ve been informative, if you are embarking on a new scheme soon consider keeping some items if you can, see how they can be updated and if you feel brave enough to do a feature wall some panelling will give it that bit extra va-va -voom.
Bye for now
