Autumn Edit…

Hi everyone,

Wow, hasn’t the weather changed all of a sudden! It’s almost dark by 6.30pm and the gardens are damp in the early mornings. I even had a glimpse of my breath in the air the other morning. So I thought I’d write a little blog about how to prepare your home to help make it the coziest place it can be for the autumn and winter. Let’s prepare for the long nights ahead curling up at 7pm (or earlier) in our pjs and binge watching the latest top ten on Netflix. So here are a few tips for your autumn edit.

Lighting

Lighting is so important in the darker months, some people actually suffer with the lack of warm and daylight in winter time and can actually make people feel poorly.

With so many options now days with battery operated and rechargeable lighting it’s easy to make a room feel cosy and warm.

So with rechargeable lighting and lamps you can obviously place them anywhere in a space without having to stick to only where your plug sockets are. So if you have a little dark corner you can place a lamp there to help cozy up your room.

Also there are some stunning wall lights you can get that are rechargeable or battery operated like the picture below from Amazon. They usually come with a remote control, can be colour changing too to create a cozy living room or bedroom for those longer darker nights.

You can also highlight your wall art with battery operated lighting for darker hallways or in your living rooms.

I love candles….and for safety reasons a lot of people stay clear of them but as a lot of you may be aware you can also get battery powered candles too these are great for cozy evenings placed on coffee tables, shelving and side tables even as a centrepiece on your dining table without the risk of burning anyone or anything.

I always switch up my blankets and cushions for autumn and winter time, add some fluffy blankets and cushions to your beds and sofas to snuggle up with. Go for different textures and patterns to add depth and interest to complement your room.

Just like we change our wardrobes to winter clothes by layering up we should also do the same with our homes too.

Accessories

I like to add some autumnal colours to a room through either accessories, ornaments or just something simple such as flowers in a lovely vase. There are so many brilliant faux flowers now that you can buy and put away when spring arrives to then get out again next autumn like these from https://www.contempee.com

Also a lighter rug can work well to help make a room feel lighter in the darker months as brighter days make us more alert and actually happier and this goes for our interiors too. Also open your blinds and curtains for as long as you can and let in as much daylight and sunshine as you can into your home everyday, it really does help.

Fireplace ready

If you’re lucky enough to have a real fire these are the ultimate in cozy and the light and heat that these create are second to none, BUT if you don’t have a real fire there are so many great looking electric fires you can buy even if you just have the light element on it creates the ultimate mood lighting and instantly makes you feel warmer just by looking at it. Like this one below we fitted into a bedroom scheme.

Autumn scents

We can also make our home smell like autumn, with oil diffusers, incense sticks and even slicing up oranges or using the peel and placing them in a pan with water, cinnamon, cloves and spices leave to simmer on the stove to give off a lovely autumnal smell into your home.

I’m feeling the need to go and light my fire now and curl up under a fluffy blanket with some cozy mood lighting on.

I hope my autumn edit tips have helped to inspire you to start autumn editing your spaces and I wish you all a cozy, warm and snuggly autumn and winter.

Thank you so much for reading, until next time.

Take care
