HOUSE outfit

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all well, I thought I’d jump on the blog to talk about outfits…yes outfits.

When designing a space I see a room a little like an outfit. We’ve been invited to a big birthday party and need to update our wardrobes (rooms).

So for instance your investment piece would be a dress or suit, the main part of your outfit. The part of your outfit that will stand out and everyone will notice first.

So in a room you have your investment stand out pieces, these would be your lighting, sofa, bed, sideboards, wardrobe’s, bath and so on. These are the items in your room that are usually the biggest pieces, the ones you will have the longest and stand out the most and the ones that will be used year after year.

The first place to start though is with the colour of your outfit/ stand out pieces.

Then once you have chosen your colour scheme the next part of your home outfit I see as the main accessories to match your outfit…your shoes, handbags and belts. Which in the home would be your cushions, curtains and rugs . The items that need to match but also complement your main outfit.

Then the final part of completing an outfit is the finer details, the jewellery.. necklaces, earrings, bracelets, cuff links and watches. In the home this would be your smaller accessories the flowers, vases, candles, ornaments, wall art etc… the pretty bits. This part of creating an outfit is the best part, the part where the magic happens, this is the part where it’s all pulled together and you’re ready to go out.

Smaller accessories are used to stage your outfit, the jewellery.

Also when we leave home in the morning for work or even if you’re staying in we all get changed out of our pj’s into something else, unless you’re having a pyjama day then just ignore this bit. I get it some days we just don’t want to get dressed… anyway so just like dressing ourselves you should also dress your beds. Throw back the covers, plump up the pillows add your throw’s and accent cushions then you’re good to go. I know, I know we’re all short on time in the morning’s but it really doesn’t take a minute, unless it’s fresh linen day… that takes a little longer.

I can’t stress enough the benefit of making your bed look more attractive for when you return home after a hard day. Apparently if you make your bed you’re more likely to be much more productive that day. Also a study conducted by the National Sleep foundation found that people who make their bed in the morning are 19 percent more likely to have a good nights sleep every night. So it’s a win win, we get dressed, so get your bed dressed.

So I hope this has inspired you to see your rooms in a different way, like an outfit. To see the main space brought to life with matching accessories to complement the space (outfit). To finish a room off with smaller accessories to make it shine (jewellery) and to make it presentable as we make ourselves presentable every day. By just by making our beds, tidying clutter away here and there and plumping up your cushions on the sofa can make all the difference and actually boost our mood and make us happier when you have visitors or just for your own benefit when you return home to a presentable, good looking room.

Thank you so much for reading and happy dressing your spaces.
